Abstract

1373494 Stabilizing diffusion transfer images AGFA-GEVAERT 10 Jan 1972 [12 Jan 1971] 1508/71 Heading G2C A method of stabilizing the image-tone of a silver image formed by a silver complex diffusion transfer process using a light-sensitive element and an image receiving element comprises either (a) effecting the diffusion transfer process in the presence of a disulphide or (b) treating the formed silver image with a solution of a disulphide, the disulphide having the formula: X-A 1 -S-S-A 2 -Y in which A 1 and A 2 represent optionally substituted alkylene or optionally substituted arylene, and X and Y represent a water solubilizing group in acid or salt form, e.g. -CO 2 H. SO 3 Na, or a substituent carrying the water solubilizing group. Examples of the substituent are vinyl, benzimidazolyl, -CONHR, or -SO 2 NHR, where R 1 is aryl or alkyl, -NR 2 R 3 where R 2 is H or alkyl (1-5C) and R 3 is alkyl (1 -5C) or acyl. The disulphide may be present in a water-permeable layer of either the light-sensitive element or the image receiving element or in the processing fluid.
