[Also in Division B1] The packing comprising alternate plain and corrugated sheets 14 and 16, e.g. of paper, cellulose or asbestos, of a cooling tower is wetted by jets of water 28 from a supply duct 26 rotatably mounted above the packing and provided with a screen 36 which covers that portion of the packing which has just been sprayed with liquid and prevents for a short time the upward flow of air through the passages thereof, the jets 28 serving to rotate the supply duct.
