Abstract

962,548. Box making machines. KLIKLOK CORPORATION. Jan. 4, 1961 [Jan. 7, 1960], No. 652/60. Heading B5D. [Also in Division B8] A device for setting up boxes from blanks (see Division B8), having side panels 12, 13 and end panels 16, 17 extending from a base 11 with corner flaps 20 breakable in slits 23, comprises a reciprocating plunger 26 provided with projections 38 and recesses 39, a die 28 consisting of die portions 41 drawn together by springs 43 with the die portions carrying throat elements 46, 47, which in conjunction with projections 38 and recesses 39 fold the sides of the box and open out the slits 23, guide pins 56, 57 locating the blank in position and end shaping elements 51 folding the end panels and urging corner flaps 20 into the slits during the downward stroke of the plunger. The interlocking of the tip portions 25 is accomplished by fingers 63 mounted on pivotable arms 59 and actuated through a bell-crank lever 64 by an actuator 65, which is depressed by an arm 70 moving in unison with the plunger. As the plunger returns to its upward position the arm 70 releases the actuator 65, which disengages the fingers 63, under the action of the spring 67, and the set up box with fully interlocked flaps is stripped from the plunger by the lower edge 71 of the end element 51. The device is suitable for folding lined blanks without damaging the lining by the elements which open the slits in the side walls and other elements which force the tips 25 through the slits 23.
