Abstract

1,034,140. Box making machines. KLIKLOK CORPORATION. Jan. 18. 1965 [Jan. 20, 1964], No. 2068/65. Heading B5D. In a plunger and die box forming machine for setting up boxes with internal corner gussets from flat blanks, a blank is picked up from a stack by a suction holder 13 which is operated by a mechanism as described in Specification 785,183 which is referred to, placed over the die and prefolded, Fig. 5, the folding of the gussets being initiated by pins 63 and carried on by V-shaped corner folding rules 51 on the underside of the holder. The blank in this position is engaged under protuberances 69 of the side folding rules 61 so as to be detached from the holder 13 as this is retracted, and the plunger 11 descends to drive the box through the die. Towards the end of the stroke of the plunger, spring-loaded fingers in a box corner locking mechanism 74 carried in the hollow plunger are caused to protrude by the engagement of rollers 72 with cam surfaces of the die and pull T-shaped tabs in the box end walls through V-shaped notches in the gusset folds, Figs. 10-12 (not shown). Spring-loaded stripper fingers 84 strip the box from the plunger on retraction thereof, Fig. 13 (not shown).
