Abstract

1,073,985. Making boxes. C. DAVIDSON & SONS Ltd. April 1, 1964 [May 15, 1963], No. 19303/63. Addition to 890,504. Heading B5D. The box folding machine according to the main Patent No. 890,504 is modified in that fingers 7 are provided to fold inwards extension flaps 12 on each end panel 10 of the blank 3, the fingers 7 being moved in a plane at right angles to the direction of motion of the male former 4 which is provided with a number of slots 9 to allow passage of the fingers 7. The box. is formed within the female former 6 beneath which an hydraulically operated platform is provided to eject the formed box out of the top of the female former. The fingers 7 are moved by hydraulic means. In forming the box, the male former descends, then the fingers are moved forward to press the flaps 12 down on top of the male former, the fingers are retracted, the male former raised, thus restoring the flaps to the vertical position, the fingers are moved forward again restoring the flaps to a position parallel to the base of the box, the male former descends again, pressing the flaps against the sides to which they adhere.
