Abstract

324,830. Universelle Cigarettenmaschinenfabrik J. C. Muller & Co., and Neff, J. Feb. 20, 1929. Packeting by wrapping-up.-Boxes or packets, filled with cigarettes &c. and having a tongued flap adapted to be pushed in a slit, are closed by the apparatus shown in Fig. 1. A finger 2, having a roughened or pointed end, is mounted for vertical movement in a head 3 which itself is oscillated horizontally by a link 8. A filled carton a is brought into position beneath the finger, and as the head 3 is moved to the left the finger is depressed by a guide bar so as to engage the flap c and to depress it and the portion of the box between the slit and the edge into the position shown in Fig. 3a, and, while a stop A acts as a support, the finger moves into the position shown in Fig. 4. On moving again to the right, the finger causes the flap to enter the slot and thus closes the box. In modifications, the finger may be provided with a suction orifice, or formed as a needle point.
