in the drawings the numeral 15 designates the body portionof a match box, and 16 the cover for the same. rlhe body portion 15 of the `match box is of special construction andv is used in connection with the cover of an ordinary safety match box, it being adapted to displace the ordinary body portion of a safety match box and to be formed of tin or some other thin substantial material. Oneend of said special body portion has a transverse slot 17 formed therein, which is enlarged at one end, as at 18. In order to connect the tongue with the lower end wall of said box, the widened exex'tremity of said angular extension, or the head of the T-shaped portion thereof as'it may be termed, has passed through the enlarged or widened end 18 of the slot i7, said angular extension being then drawn into the narrow or major portion of said slot so that the lugs 44 or the widened portion of said extension lie against the inner surface of the end wall of the body portion of the boxl l5 at opposite sides of said slot 1T, thus retaining said tongue in direct connection with said body portion. For the purpose of concealingthe tongue within the body portion of the container, said body portion is slightly longer than the match box inserted thereinto.

Matches removed from the container may be lighted through the elongated opening in the body portion of the container or the windshield when it not found necessary to protect the flame from the wind. However, when lighting a cigar or the like in the open air', especially when the wind is blowing, it is simply necessary to swing the windshield outwardly to bring the ,teat 34 against the end I35 of `the segmental. slot 33, which will position the edge wall 27 of said windshield at an acute angle to the adjacent prepared edge wall of the match box cover and form a triangular lighting space 40 between said two edge walls. The distance between the edge wall` of the windshield and' the adjacent! edge wall of the match boxvcover will permit a match, illustrated for instance bythe dotted lines 41 in Fig. 4, to be passed into the triangular lighting space 40 and against the adjacent prepared edge of the match box cover, andl while preparingto strike the match against said prepared edge, a cigar inserted into the large upper open end of the lighting space, as illustrated for instance by thedotted lines 42 in Fig. 4, will be protected from the wind, after which the match may be moved in frictional contact with said prepared edge to cause the match'to be lighted. The flame and cigar thus protected against the wind will assure convenient lighting ofthe cigar. After the cigar is lighted, the windshield may be swung inwardly against the match box, and when in this condition, the container will be compact and' only a trifle larger thanthe ordinary safety match box with which it is use, thus permitting the com purpose said adapted for llO In Fig. l it will be seen that the outward 4swinging movement of the windshield will cause the tongue 38 thereof to projectfthe body portion of the match box from the upper end of the container a sufficient distance to conveniently permit the withdrawal of a match, and that when swinging the windshield against the open edge of the body portion of the container, the body portion of the match box will be drawn back into the container. i

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A match container comprising a body portion, a box slidable in said body portion having a slot in one of its end walls enlarged at one of its ends, a windshield pivotally connected to said body portion at one corner thereof and having an inwardly extending tongue provided with oppositely-directed lugs passed through the enlarged end of said slot and lying in contact with the inner side of said end wall to cause said box to be moved outwardly and inwardly within said body portion when swinging said windshield outwardly and then inwardly.

2. A match container comprising a body portion having a match box therein provided with a slot in one end wall, a windshield pivotally connected to said body portion and having a .tongue extending into said body portion with its free end passed through the slot of said box and retained therein.

3. A match container comprising a body portion, a box slidable in said body portion and having a part at one end provided with a slot enlarged at one of its ends, a windshield pivotally connected to said body portion and having a tongue whose free end is passed through said slot and reta-ined therein.

4. A match container comprising a body portion having a match box therein, a windshield pivotally connected to said match box, and a tongue and slot connection between said windshield and said match box whereby said match box is moved outwardly when swinging said windshield in one direction and inwardly when swinging said windshield in the other direction.
