Abstract
962,143. Insulators. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRO-CERAMIQUE. Jan. 25, 1962 [Jan. 26, 1961], No. 2930/62. Heading H2C. An insulator comprises a ceramic part 1 with a recess 6 into which a pin 7 is cemented, the pin consisting of bonded inorganic fibres. As described, in a cap and pin type insulator the pin 7 is of fibres 10 of glass or ceramic or strands 11 of fibres 10 bonded together by thermosetting polyester or epoxy resins. Ends 8 and 9 of the pin 7 are made bulbous, e.g. by introducing in each a body 17 before bonding the fibres, or by bonding the splayed end 9 (Fig. 4, not shown) to a metal bulb containing thermosetting resin. Alternatively, a loop 18 may be formed at the end 9 by folding the fibres, before bonding, around a metal insert 19. The end 8 is cemented inside the head 2 of a ceramic cap type insulator, which is in turn cemented to a metallic cap having an eye 4<SP>1</SP>, which is hung from the end of a fin of a similar cap and pin assembly.
