Abstract

A composition comprises (A) polymethyl methacrylate or a copolymer of methyl methacrylate with up to 40% by weight of a monoethylenically unsaturated compound copolymerizable therewith and (B) a solid copolymer of ethylene with 7 to 95% by weight of a monoethylenically saturated compound selected from the class consisting of (i) those compounds in which at least one of the free valencies of the >C=C< group is satisfied by a -CN or -COOR (R=H or a monovalent hydrocarbon radical) group or a free valency or one carbon atom and a free valency on the other carbon atom are together satisfied by the radical -CO-O-OC- and in which at least 2 of the remaining valencies of said group are attached to hydrogen atoms, and (ii) a compound represented by the formula <FORM:0961695/C3/1> where X may be H or an alkyl group and R1 is an aromatic or aliphatic radical with from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, wherein the amount of said product B(i) is from 5 to 50% by weight of the combined weights of A and B and the amount of said product B(ii) being from 3 to 50% by weight of the combined weights of A and B. The exemplified compositions are a copolymer of methyl methacrylate and ethyl acrylate mixed with a copolymer of ethylene and methyl methacrylate and polymethyl methacrylate with an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer. The compositions are preferably made by polymerizing the monomeric components of A in the presence of an aqueous suspension or emulsion of polymer B.
