Abstract

A composition comprises (i) a polymer of vinyl chloride and (ii) a polymeric material obtained by polymerizing 33 to 150 parts by weight of one or more alkyl methacrylate, in which the alkyl radical contains 1 to 10 carbon atoms alone or together with one or more alkyl acrylates, in which the alkyl radical contains 1 to 12 carbon atoms, in the presence of 100 parts by weight of a polymer of vinyl chloride 1, the composition containing at least 0.25 parts by weight of (ii) to each 100 parts by weight of (i). Component (i) may be a chlorinated polymer of vinyl chloride. The preferred and exemplified method of preparing component (ii) is described in Specification 1,015,334. Other constituents of the composition may be ethyl palmitate, trimethylol propane distearate or lauryl mercaptan. The exemplified component (ii) comprises a mixture of ethyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate polymerized in the presence of, as catalyst, a ,a 1-azo-di-isobutyronitrile, and also in the presence of a homopolymer of vinyl chloride. The compositions may be prepared by mixing and milling or by forming the polymer (i) in an aqueous medium in the presence of the component (ii). Pipes, ducts, channels, bowls, domes, plates and sheets may be formed from the compositions.
