Abstract

961, 574. Fluid-pressure servomotors. PARKER-HANNIFIN CORPORATION. Oct. 3, 1961, No. 35670/61. Heading G3P. An automatic shut-off valve 1 for use in filling a tank with liquid comprises a housing 2, 8, 9, 10 and a valve member 16 connected to one end of a hollow spindle 17 the other end of which is connected to a spring loaded diaphragm 12 which defines chambers 14, 15. A passage 34 extends from the chamber 14 to a jet discharge orifice 31 and a passage 36 extends from a jet receiving orifice 32 to the chamber 15. In operation, the valve is attached to the tank and liquid under pressure raises the valve member 16 to open the port 4 and allow liquid to enter the tank through ports 6. The liquid also passes through the hollow spindle 17 to chamber 14 and via passage 34 to discharge jet orifice 31. The receiving jet 32 produces a pressure in the chamber 15 which acts in a valve opening direction. The jets 31, 32 are located at the desired liquid level so that when the desired level is reached the energy of the jet stream is dissipated and the pressure in the chamber 15 falls whereby the spring 30 and the pressure in chamber 14 effect closure of the valve.
