Abstract
966,660. Controlling fluid flow. SPERRY RAND CORPORATION. April 10,1963 [April 23, 1962], No. 14281/63. Heading G3H. A pure fluid device in which a power fluid stream issuing from a nozzle 16 normally discharges to an outlet 28 due to the positioning of a divider 27 but is deflected to discharge to an outlet 29 by flow through either or both of a pair of control nozzles 21, 22 has a concavity 33 whereby the main stream is caused to revert to the outlet 28 on cessation of control nozzle flow. Whilst a control flow takes place the deflected main stream follows the concavity, as indicated by the arrow 35, but when the control flow ceases the main stream is deflected to a lesser extent, as indicated by the line 36, causing the stream to strike the surface of the concavity such that some fluid is reflected backwards into the concavity to provide a pressure acting to deflect the stream upwardly. The stream ultimately strikes the divider 27 which channels it into the outlet 28. The outlets 28, 29 may be interconnected by a passage (not shown) in the divider to prevent switching from one outlet to the other in response to back pressure in an outlet.
