Abstract

960,628. Indicating leakages in tubes. CALUMET & HECLA Inc. Oct. 25, 1961 [March 29, 1961], No. 38279/61. Heading G1S. [Also in Divisions B3 and F4] A leak detector tube structure for a heat transfer device comprises an elongated normally imperforate outer tube 11 provided with integral, circumferential finning 12 extending radially outwardly and along the length thereof to provide longitudinally spaced, finned portions, and a normally imperforate inner tube 13 telescoped coaxially in the tube 11 in fixed relation thereto, one of the tubes having longitudinally extending formations 15 on one surface thereof at which it is in tight radial engagement with the other tube, the formations extending substantially from end to end of the structure and defining circumferentially spaced, longitudinally extending, leak detector passages 14 between the tubes. As shown, the tube 10 is provided with radially extending, helical ribs 12 and a number of internal, longitudinal, grooves 14 of triangular cross-section which are formed simultaneously with the formation of the ribs; the inner tube is expanded into contact with the tube 10. The area of contact between the tubes is within the range of 60 to 80% of the outer suface of the inner tube. Alternatively, the inner tube is formed with a grooved outer surface. Specification 673,818 is referred to.
