Abstract

The heat exchanger tube is fitted with internal longitudinal grooves (2) equally spaced around the inner surface of the tube. The tube is also fitted with a number of equally spaced circumferential grooves spaced at less than twenty diameters apart. The effect of the circumferential grooves is to interrupt the flow and so prevent a build up of the boundary layer and thus increase the heat transfer coefficient of the tube.
