Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance the peel off of the boundary layer from the tube wall by providing an intermittent flat portion in the continuous groove axially formed on the inside wall of a heat conducting tube for increased coefficient of heat transfer and reduced pressure loss.
CONSTITUTION: Grooves 2 are axially formed on the inside wall of a heat conducting tube 1 whereby the flow adjacent to the heat conducting surface is disturbed for form thinner boundary layer and improved coefficient of heat transfer. Further forming of an intermittent flat portion 3 in said grooves 2 enhances the peel off of the boundary layer from the tube wall. The boundary layer peeled off from the tube wall redevelops along the direction of flow but peels off again by the flat portion provided with spacing of less than twenty times of the tube inside diameter.
