Abstract

1384964 Telescopic yarn tubes E JUNGBECKER C JITNGBEOKER G JUNGBECKER and JOSE JUNGBECKER JNR [trading as JOS ZIMMERMANN] 2 May 1972 [10 May 1971] 20351/72 Heading B8M A telescopic yarn package carrier comprises two axially spaced end rings 1 and 2, and two sets of elongated carrier means 3, 8, each set being fixed to and axially extending from a respective end ring in such manner that the two sets constitute a cylindrical periphery, the carrier means of one set being axially displaceable relative to the other set, the members of one set being telescopically displaceably engaged with complementary members of the other set; and the carrier means of each set having complementary guide means for guiding a carrier means of the other set. In a preferred embodiment, the carrier means of one set are in the form of tubes 3, and the carrier means of the other set are in the form of rods which are received in the tubes 3. Each tube 3 has a axial slit 6 which receives an axial rib 9 on the rod 8 to guide the rod within the tube. The free ends of the tubes 3 are preferably connected by straps 5 to increase the rigidity of the structure. In the non-telescoped condition the ends of the rods 8 are received in the ends of the tubes 3 and are retained by mating grooves and ribs 11, 12; an axially applied force releases the mating condition for telescoping of the carrier means. In a further embodiment; each set comprises alternately arranged tubes and rods which are connected together at their free ends in pairs to constitute the carrier means. In a further embodiment, each carrier means comprises at one circumferential edge a dovetail shaped portion and at the other circumferential edge a portion which mates with the dovetial shaped portion. In order to reduce the resistance to bending of the carrier means at their portions adjacent the spaced rings 1, 2, it is proposed that part of the wall of the carrier means be cut away in this area whereby shrinkage of yarn during heat or dyeing treatments may be accommodated. The package carrier may be made of steel but is preferably made of plastics.
