Abstract

955,490. Catheters. R. BROOKE. Oct. 30, 1962 [Aug. 2, 1961; July 9, 1962], Nos. 28057/61 and 26200/62. Heading A5R. A catheter comprises an inner tube 5 extending through the bore of an outer tube 6. The end of the inner tube is secured to an apertured head 2 and the outer tube adjacent the same end, is slit or slotted, as at 11, so that when the inner tube is pulled relatively to the outer tube, the latter bulges outwardly in the region of the slits and forms a portion of enlarged cross-section which serves to retain the catheter in the bladder. In a modified form (see Figs. 7-10, not shown), the outer tube is cut away to form an elongated aperture, the width of which extends over at least half the circumference of the tube. When the inner tube is pulled, in this case, the outer tube doubles back clear of the inner tube and results in the end section taking up a position transverse to the axis of the tubes.
