944,723. Tubular heat exchange elements. CALUMET & HECLA Inc. Nov. 24, 1960 [Dec. 28, 1959], No. 40454/60. Heading F4S. A coolant-carrying tube in a steam condenser is formed on its interior surface with uniformly axially spaced, generally circumferentiallyextending ridge portions separated by grooves or channel portions, the ridge portions having an axial spacing Si of 0.05 to 0.16 inch and a radial height Hi of 0.010 to 0.030 inch, the dimension Si being at least three times and preferably as much as five times as great as the dimension Hi. The preferred form of tube also has external fins which may have a height of 0.025 to 0.045 inch and an axial spacing of 0.05 to 0.09 inch. The internal ridges and channels, and the external fins may be either annular or helical.
