Two superposed quadrilateral flexible sheets 1, 2 (Fig. 2) joined at some or all of their edges ab, bc, cd, da and formed at two or more corners with notches such as aEa are formed into containers by joining the lips such as aE, aE, forming each notch. The notches are symmetrical about the bisectors EF, EG of the quadrilaterals and can be secured together with the container folded flat as in Fig. 3, by refolding the container along the lines HFGI (Fig. 2) with the portions ad, be pushed re-entrantly into the container. All four corners may be notched and joined, as indicated in Fig. 2, or alternatively this may be done at two corners only to form the bottom of a bag such as is shown in Fig. 16. In forming this bag the intermediate configuration shown in Fig. 14 can be reached by securing together two sheets cut to the form of Fig. 13 and refolding the resulting tube along the lines AB, DC. Reentrant and external gussets 17, 18 (Fig. 10) may be provided to receive one or more internal partitions 19 which may be perforated and may be formed in two parts stuck together. The partition 19 is secured in place before the upper and lower portions of the bag, including the notches such as aEa and the edges such as ab, are secured together. The bag may be formed of plastics, or, as shown, of rubberized fabric with the seams secured by adhesive strips such as 3 (Fig. 2) and 20 (Fig. 10). The two sheets shown in Fig. 2 may be folded from a single sheet, making one of the seams ab unnecessary. A spout for filling the bag may be formed by including in the seams a tapering rubber tube 27 (Fig. 13) provided with a metal insert 29 to receive a stopper 31 (Fig. 16). An outlet spout may be similarly secured. Handles or lifting shackles may be secured to fabric tabs 14 (Fig. 7) stuck to the walls of the bag over adhesively secured metal strips 13. The webs 14 may be secured at straight portions of the seams between opposite edges of the notches aEa (Fig. 2).
