Abstract

958,704. Spinning spindles. A. TERPAK. Jan.23, 1962 [June 15,1961], No. 2503/62. Heading D1D. A spindle for supporting and rotating a yarn carrier T comprises a central metal core 20 with a cylindrical barrel 22 of plastics material moulded thereon, the barrel having a driving whorl 30 formed at its lower end. The barrel has an enlarged portion 24 to loosely centre the yarn carrier T while driving engagement between spindle and carrier is effected at the upper end of the carrier. The portion 24 may alternatively take the form of a cone. To lessen wear a metal insert 36 is provided in the barrel and metal caps 44, 46 are provided on the yarn carrier. The spindle may also be provided with an oil tube 14 and holding down means 15.
