In a double-twist spindle having a rotatable hollow shaft 8, Fig. 1, not shown, carrying a storage-disc 9 and a thread-guide plate 10, the bobbin carrier is suspended from a sleeve 17 rotatably mounted relatively to the shaft at the upper end thereof, so as to extend downwardly towards the storage disc and to surround the shaft with radial clearanec. A tube 15 is mounted in bearings in the shaft 8 and carries the inner races of the bearings. The bobbin cage 19 is carried by a ring 20 which is secured on a shoulder of the sleeve 17, screwed etc, on to the upper part of tube 15, by a cap 21 screwed on to an upper extension of the member. This cap houses a thread-brake 22 and has screwed thereon a thread guide-tube 23 on which is rotatably mounted a cap 24 carrying the flyer 26. The bobbin-cage comprises a number of U- shaped wire members 19, 30, 31 extending between the ring 20 and a thread-deflector ring 32, which can be deformed to take bobbins with sleeves of different characteristics, and which carry stabilizing-magnets 33 which may serve to interconnect parts of the cage. The cage, together with the tube 15 with the inner bearing-races and cages and the parts 17, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 26 comprise a removable unit. The bobbin, with sleeve 28 can be inserted and the tube 15 threaded-up, outside the machine. The disc 9 and plate 10 are secured to the tube 8 by yarn bushes 35 through which the thread can be drawn pneumatically from tube 15 for threading-up. In another form, Fig. 3, not shown, a tube with a plastics lining to reduce friction on the yarn, is inserted in tube 15 and the cap 17 is screwed on to the inner tube. The tube 15 remains in position when the cage and associated parts are removed.
