Abstract
958,462. Cutting-apparatus. USINES GUSTAV STAAR S.A. Feb. 20, 1962 [Sept. 6, 1961], No. 6534/62. Heading B4B. [Also in Division G5] A tape recorder, whose record 4 is driven in discrete steps as described in Specification 958,463 [Division G5], has a bridge member 2, spanning the advancing tape, which guides a carriage 5 carrying a knife-blade 10 which automatically severs the foremost portion of the record after appropriate forward-spacing. The carriage is wound by hand to the right against a spring 31 and is latched by a pin 29 on the carriage engaging surfaces 42, then 40. The blade is pivoted at 9 and the lower leg 21<SP>1</SP> of a hairpin spring tends to advance it into cutting position; however, spring tension 31, holding the carriage 5 against an end-stop 27, urges a slide member 25 to the right, overcoming the weaker hairpin spring and a pin 11 on the blade is trapped above a rib 12 to keep the blade out of contact during winding-up. Upon latching, the pin 11, which has overrun the end of the rib 12, is urged by the hairpin spring into the channel 14<SP>1</SP> and, on release, the spring 31 winds the carriage back, a groove 50 providing knife clearance while a curved surface 15 holds the record down. In the Fig. 17 embodiment, the complete cutter assembly is hinged at 58 and may be raised clear of the machine bed to facilitate threading &c.
