Abstract

958,431. Welding cable terminals. HADDON CABLES Ltd. March 8, 1963 [March 9, 1962], No. 9233/62. Heading H2E. To facilitate withdrawal of the insulating sheath of a welding cable over the terminals, the sides of the terminals are made multisided so as to provide supporting edges for the sheath. As shown, the terminal elements 10 and 11 are formed by machining and sawing a dodecagonsided bar (Fig. 1, not shown) of sulphur copper, lead copper or tellurium copper into a shape as shown in Fig. 4, the edges 28 being the original edges of the bar which facilitate withdrawal of the cable sheath. The terminal elements are spaced and insulated from each other by an insulating plate 12 and the insulating sheath 13 of the cable is secured to the serrated cylindrical portions 10A and 11A of the terminal elements by a clamping band 14. Alternate conductors 16 of the welding cable are connected in apertures 26 at the rear of terminal element 11 and in a clover-leaf shaped member 24 projecting through a slot in 11 and connected to 10. The forward ends of the terminal elements are formed with flat portions 10c, 11c for receiving conducting elements of the welding apparatus. Aperture 33 in the clover-leaf end portion of 10 connects the cable to the water pipe-line 29 which is screwed into the terminal elements at 27. Specification 511,680 is referred to.
