Abstract

958,022. Bearings. ELLIOTT BROS. (LONDON) Ltd. July 4, 1960 [July 13, 1959], No. 23938/59. Heading F2A. Two members A, B are aligned on a common axis for relative rotation thereabout, the member A having a pair of bearing surfaces which are oppositely inclined to each other and to the axis, and the member B having a complementary pair of bearing surfaces for engagement with those on the member A. Each bearing surface has an extension R which is parallel to the axis and extends away from the cooperating surface of the other member. In an embodiment, a thrust bearing has members A, B with a number of pairs of bearing surfaces thereon which eliminate relative radial movement between the members A, B. The members A, B may be both made of rigid material, one member may be faced with resilient material, alternatively a layer of resilient material such as P.T.F.E. may be interposed between the contact faces. The Specification describes several applications such as rotatable inspection tables and dividing heads.
