860,973. Yielding bearing supports. VASTA, F. May 14, 1959, No. 16602/59. Class 12 (1). In a ball or roller bearing, at least one of its rings contains damping elements formed from resilient material and assembled on each side of a reinforcing ring. The damping rings 9, 10 and the metal ring 11, Fig. 2, are coaxial with the bearing and the assembly facilitates the distribution of the stress over the rings 9, 10 to increase their life and their damping effect. Both the inner and outer rings may have one or more damping assemblies formed therein and each resilient element may have a different modulus of elasticity. In a thrust bearing, clamping elements 18, 19, Fig. 9, are arranged on opposite sides of a metal annulus 17. In a further modification, Fig. 11, two reinforcing annuli 17 are arranged between three damping elements 18, 19 and 21. Similar arrangements may be provided on each side of a thrust bearing. The damping elements may be continuous annular members or alternatively they may comprise sets of resilient sectors, arranged so that each sector is opposite a space in the complementary set of sectors to increase the damping effect, as shown in Fig. 4.
