Abstract

957,270. Winding tip-bunches in a spinning frame. DENCO A.G. Aug. 27,1962 [Sept. 11,1961], No. 32791/62. Heading D1D. In a spinning machine where the ring-rail is traversed through a chain connecting it to a drivemeans, means are provided for building a tip-bunch when the normal wind is completed by changing the effective length of the chain &c. to impart a sudden displacement of the ring-rail. In Fig. 1, a rockershaft 17 carries a lever 18, a counterweight 19, and an arm 20 carrying a quadrant 28, connected, by a chain &c. 30 passing over a pulley P, to a buildercam 32. As the latter oscillates and the chain is alternately slackened and tensioned, the ring-rail is correspondingly raised and lowered through pokers 21 resting on lever 18. Interposed in the chain is a unit 33, Fig. 2, comprising a housing 34 for a pin 39, one part of the chain being connected to the housing and the other to the pin. In normal operation, the pin is prevented from moving to the left when the chain is in tension by a detent-yoke 46 which grips a neck on the pin. When the normal wind is completed, the rail 15 closes a switch 57 to energize a solenoid 48 and thus prpject a pin 49 to lift the detent to free the pin which is thus moved suddenly to the left by the tension in the chain so that the latter slackens for the weight 19 to impart a sudden lift to the ring-rail, to an extent limited by a cable 59, to a position above the normal winding. When the bunch is wound, a timing mechanism de-energizes the solenoid, lowers the ring-rail and cuts out the motor driving the frame; as the rail falls, the effect of weight 19 is relieved, a spring 54 normalizes the pin 39, and the yoke is caused to grip the pin by a leaf-spring 53. Alternatively, the ring-rail is lowered by a foot-pedal 23. In another form, the unit 33 is replaced by that shown in Fig. 5. Here one end of the chain is connected to a housing 63 and the other to a pin 70 normally gripped by a ball 75 engaging a groove 74 and controlled by a plunger 81. When a solenoid 86 is energized, a pin 88 is projected to urge the plunger to the right against the tension of a spring 84 where it is locked by a ball 85 engaging a neck 82. Lubricating-means 69 are provided. In another form, Fig. 7, the chain is attached to a quadrant 89 pivoted at 90 to an arm 91 fixed to the rocker-shaft 92. When the chain is in tension, it maintains the end of an arcuate slot 104 in contact with an armature-pin of a solenoid 100 fixed to the arm. When the normal wind is completed, the solenoid is energized to withdraw the pin, and the tension on the chain rocks the quadrant anticlockwise to an extent limited by a cable 98 to slacken the chain and allow the weight 19 to lift the rail. When the solenoid is de-energized,the pin is projected, and as the chain slackens during the descent of the rail to doffing-position, a spring 95 restores the quadrant to a position when the slot registers with the pin. In another form, Fig. 9, not shown, a jockey-pulley normally deflects the chain out of a straight path, but when a solenoid is energized, the pulley rises to slacken the chain. Alternatively, energization of the solenoid may cause the pulley P, Fig, 1, to drop and slacken the chain.
