Abstract

Propionic acid 3, 4-dichloroanilide is prepared by reacting 3, 4-dichloroaniline and a molar excess of propionic acid, referred to the dichloroaniline, in chlorobenzene as a solvent and at an elevated temperature while gradually adding a molar excess of thionyl chloride, referred to the dichloroaniline. Preferably 1.2 mol. each of propionic acid and thionyl chloride are used per mol. of dichloroaniline. The preferred temperature is 90-95 DEG C. Specifications 840,912 and 903,766 are referred to.
