Abstract

956,901. Valves. ARTHUR GUINNESS SON & CO. (PARK ROYAL) Ltd. Feb. 26, 1963 [March 12, 1962], No. 9385/62. Heading F2V. [Also in Division G3] A flow control valve for dispensing pressurized beverages which contain gas in solution, e.g. beer and carbonated beverages, incorporates a perforated restrictor for foaming by release of gas from the liquid and can also be adjusted to permit a smooth flow of the liquid to by-pass the perforations thereby to adjust the amount of foam to a desired level. A plunger 9 is a loose sliding fit within the bore of housing 1 at the apexes of a central triangular section and has tapering upstream 10 and downstream 12b spigots. The plunger 9 is axially displaceable by hand-operated cam 12 between a maximum downstream position to obturate a central hole 7 and thereby produce maximum foam by flow through the circumferentially disposed holes 8, and a maximum upstream position opening the hole 7 to reduce flow through the holes 8 and simultaneously displacing spigot 10 into tapered restrictor 5 to reduce the passage 11 but not completely to obturate the flow therethrough.
