Abstract

1,064,497. Fluid mixing-apparatus. DEMA ENGINEERING CO. Nov. 15, 1963 [Jan. 10, 1963], No. 45224/63. Heading B1C. In apparatus for mixing liquid detergent with water, a chamber open to atmosphere is provided between a mixing valve body and a cap for connection to a pipe or faucet supplying water under pressure so as to prevent backsyphonage of detergent into the water supply line should a partial vacuum occur therein. As shown water flows through aperture 15 into a channel 30, any excess flowing down channels (35) (Fig. 2 not shown) between nozzle 27 and valve body 16. By pressing a button 42 air passage 40 is closed and detergent is induced, by the pressure differential thus caused, into the channel 30 in a proportion controlled by metering screw 50. Detergent flow is stopped by cutting off the water flow so as to equalise pressures at the restriction 32 and passage 40 whereupon button 42 is urged outwardly by spring 44. In either case reverse flow in the water line merely causes air to be drawn through passages (23) (Fig. 2 not shown) between cap 10 and body 16 into the chamber 21 and through aperture 15, flow through the channels 30, (35) ceasing automatically: In a modification (Fig. 4 not shown) the air passage 40 is omitted and the valve body 16 is closed at the bottom, the liquid flowing out through the side of the valve body into a pipe (80).
