Abstract

1334401 Valves A KNAPP 19 April 1971 [27 Feb 1970] 21747/71 Heading F2V [Also in Division B2] In a valve providing either a spray or an aerated discharge of liquid, with two-part sleeve 8, 10 in its indicated lowermost position abutting flange 7 of supply conduit 1, the liquid passes via ports 4 to a ring of passages 11 defined at the conical interface between parts 8, 10, and emerges as a spray. When the sleeve is raised, the ports 4 open into the interior of part 10 above flange 7 and the liquid flows around the latter and through an aerating device 13 to emerge as an aerated stream. The pressure drop caused by the flange 7 prevents the sleeve being urged to its lower position by the pressure acting at 14. Noise can be minimized by using a swivel attachment 17 with a throttling bore 18, by using a throttling liner (16) in the conduit, and/ or by including flow diverter (19). The sleeve part 10 can be a snap fit at its lower end in part 8, and these parts can additionally be secured together by bonding.
