Abstract
955,855. Endless belt conveyers. DISTINGTON ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. July 25, 1962 [July 27, 1961], No. 27238/61. Heading B8A. Each return roller 16 of an endless conveyer belt assembly is supported in a support structure consisting of a pair of rigid L-shaped side members whose vertical limbs 20 are secured to tensioned side ropes 14. Horizontal limbs 21 are hinged together at 22 and have cleats 24 secured to them. Each cleat has a vertical slot 25 which can be closed at its upper end and which receives an end of a shaft 23 for supporting a roller 16. Part of the shaft ends have parallel flats for engagement with the slots 25 and rotation of the shaft is prevented. Some axial movement of the shaft relative to the cleats is permitted due to the length of the parallel flats but the ultimate ends of the shaft are too large to pass through the slots. In operation, the support structure allows the ropes 14 to move towards and away from each other but maintains the return roller 16 horizontally. The shaft may have square ends which engage square holes in the cleats. Split pins may be used to prevent the shaft ends from slipping out.
