Abstract

894,116. Endless conveyers. BRITISH WEDGE WIRE CO. Ltd. Oct. 17, 1960 [Oct. 21, 1959], No. 35614/59. Class 78 (1). Side thrust resisting means for a longitudinal edge of a conveyer belt 10 comprises an idler endless belt 13 having a substantial coefficient of friction to enable it to move with the belt 10 without slip. The inner face of the idler belt 13 has running contact with the rollers 14 of an idler chain 15 which rotate in contact with walls 16 upstanding from a base-plate 17. Fig. 3 shows how the thrust resisting means is used where the conveyer belt 10 is required to traverse a corner. Those parts of the chain 15 and belt 13 which are out of engagement with the belt 10 are separately tensioned, the belt 13 being engaged by one or more rollers 28 within a cage 29 and the chain being engaged by a side support 24. Nuts and bolts 26 are used to adjust tension.
