Abstract

Heading B8A A conveyer belt installation comprises a loop of conveyer belt having a load-carrying limb 1 extending from a return station (not shown) to a load discharge station with a discharge roller 3, the limb 1 comprising a first portion adjacent to the discharge station extending to position A, and a second portion extending from position A to the discharge station. The belt is not subject to tension forces as it rests on and is supported by one or more cable lengths running on rollers 3a to be frictionally driven thereby. As shown in Fig. 1 two pairs of endless loops of driving cable 7, 10 pass downwards out of contact with the belt at position A over roller 8 and over roller 4, respectively, and pass to drive pulleys 9, 6. As shown in Fig. 2 only one pair of endless loops of driving cable 17 is used passing over drive pulleys 16, 19. The drive pulleys 6, 9 or 16, 19 may be mounted on a common shaft.
