955,777. Carding-engines. MASCHINENFABRIK RIETER A. G. Aug. 23, 1962 [Sept. 1, 1961], No. 32459/62, Heading D1N. Apparatus for removing a carded web from a cylinder includes sawtooth discs co-axially mounted parallel to the axis of the cylinder and smooth-surfaced discs that extend between the sawtooth discs. The sawteeth take the web from the cylinder and the smooth discs remove the web from the teeth. The sawtooth discs 6 preferably rotate in the same direction as the cylinder 3 (in this instance a doffer) and their peripheral speed is about the same as that of the doffer. Smooth surface discs 9 rotate at a peripheral speed 3 to 5% greater than that of the discs 6 and the peripheries of the discs 6, 9 intersect in such manner that, at the point of transfer between them, the web turns through an angle of about 90 degrees. A long arc of contact of the web with the discs 9 is obtained by passing the web between the discs 9 and a roller of smaller diameter than the discs, there being a predetermined clearance between discs and roller.
