A device for locking a settee in two positions comprises a tube 59 surrounding an anti-torsion bar 23 and capable of rotating to a specific degree on the bar 23 due to the sliding of a pin 73 connecting the tube 59 and bar 23 in transverse slots 75 in the tube 59, the tube 59 having at its ends cams 60, 66, the cam 60 being formed with two notches 62, 64 and the cam 66 with two notches 69, 71 adapted to engage a stud 63 or 70 on the settee frame 1, thereby to lock the settee in a normal sitting position or in an inclined position. The cam 60 is directly engaged by a rod 50 controlled by a lever 45. A recall and locking spring 68 connects the cam 66 to the seat frame 20. To release the settee from the normal sitting position the lever 45 is depressed to release the studs 63, 70 from the notches 62, 69 and engage them in the notches 64, 71, the settee then being in its inclined position. Further pressure on the lever 45 causes the tube 59 to rotate on the bar 23 to disengage the studs 63, 70 from the cams 60, 66 and allow the settee to take up a reclining position. Noses 65, 72 are formed on the cams so that during the reverse movement returning the settee to the sitting position the studs 63, 70 are locked directly in the notches 62, 69 corresponding to the sitting position. The settee has curved side-pieces 76 connected to the anti-torsion bar 23 and pivoted at 21 to the settee frame 1 and at 21<SP>1</SP> to the seat frame 20.
