Abstract

955,044. Screw-heads. P. LAUNAY. March 29, 1962 [March 31, 1961], No. 12180/62. Heading F2H. [Also in Divisions B3 and B4] The screwdriver slot in a screw-head (which may, as shown, have a diameter greater than the slot length) has a cross-section of an elongated hexagon shape and the six sides 14, 15 converge downwardly to a flat bottom 3 in which there is a frusto-conical hole 4 whose periphery lies within that of the slot in plan and whose bottom 41 is rounded. The slot sides 14 may lie in planes which are tangential to the surface of the hole 4 or which intersect that surface so that pairs of flats 22 are formed at two opposite sides of the hole. The slot and hole are formed (see Division B3) by a punch, Figs. 4-9 (not shown), of a shape complementary to the recesses. The screw blank has a slightly oval head which becomes circular after the forging. The recesses, due to cooling after working, will be smaller than the punch and also than the corresponding screwdriver tip (see Division B4) which is similar to the punch.
