Abstract

A screwdriver is provided with a projecting peg 2 for engagement in a corresponding hole 5 in a screw, to located the screwdriver properly relative to the screw. The peg can be integral with the screwdriver or a separate item removably mounted on it. The screwdriver can have a flat or crosshead tip.

Description

2354566 PEG SCREWDRIVER SYSTEM This invention relates to the design for a
combined screwdriver and screw set.
The use of screwdrivers with various tip designs is commonplace, with flatheads and 'Phillips' or crossheads being the most common type. The purpose of the matching design of screwdriver tip and screw head 1S naturally to ensure that a screw may be effectively turned when in use.
However, in use, available screwdrivers and screws ha\,,,e the problem that the screwdriver must be at a precise vertical anale to the screw in order to enforce an e,eii pressure on the head. Often this is difficult clue to the screw beinCT placed in an awkward spot, with tlfe I-eSUlt that the screwdriver tip slips off or out of the screw head, or the head is clai-naued due to undue force beina exerted at an uneven anale to the head. This Us especially tI-Ue Of flathead screws but also applies to crossheads.
In addition the placement and holding of a screw when beainnina to insert the threaded point into a given Material can be awkward, especially when the screw is small, but also when the point has not fully begun to bite into the wood or whatever material is beincy screwed 111to. This result,-, in the screw being dropped or requirill(y holdincy with the finuers which is often difficult.
I-) C The present invention seeks to address this problem by providing a screwdriver with an extrusion on it's tip. complernentary to a hored hole in the head of the screw. thereby providing a gulde and guaranteed 90 cle(Tree fit when inserted in use and makina the screwdriver selfholding of the screw when first in use.
According to the present 111verItIOn there IS' Provided ".1 screwdriver of variable size with a head tip of standard or common desian beinu either of the flathead or crosshead or other readily available variety, and having a protuberance or pea at the centre of the tip which extends outward,, at 90 degrees to the tip and being of design and proportion so as to fit inside a complimentary bore hole or elongated contoured space inside the head shaft of a screw of matching size and with rnatchinc, head C Z:N Such pea/protuberance on the screwdriver tip space. Z:I being either an Integral part of the screwdriver tip 01, added to fixed to or insertable into and rernovable from it and being of variable material either identical to the til-.) itself for example hardened steel or metal or the like or of different material havina a flexible or sen-ii- flexible tl nature Such as rubber plastic and the like.
3 3 A specific embodiment of the invention will now he described by way of reference to the accompanying drawinas in which Z, Figure I Shows the screwdriver tip with pecT in orthographic projection Figure 2 Shows the screw with central bore hole in head shaft HI front and plan view Figure 3 4-- Shows the screwdriver tip with pecy In position above the C screw with bore hole and interlocked with it.
4 4 Referring to the drawings. the screwdriver comprises a flathead tip I with an protruding pea 2, of complimentary proportions to a,crew 3 with flathead style horizontal cut 4 and bored hole 5 in the screw head shaft 6. The screwdriver tip is placed (directional arrow 7) in the flathead screw head cut 4 and the protruding pec, fits into the bored hole 5 in the screw head shaft, such as to guide the screwdriver tip Into place and ensure a 90 0 degree ancyle of fit between the screwdriver tip and screw head cut.
