Abstract

954,918. Tubular heat-exchangers. C. A. PARSONS & CO. Ltd. May 30, 1962 [June 2, 1961], No. 20021/61. Heading F4S. A feed water heater or other heat exchanger in which there is a large pressure difference between the heat exchanging fluids comprises a casing, a header 2 and a bank of U-tubes. The header shown is a single ring-shaped forging having an end wall 2a which acts as a tube plate and an end wall 2c joined by a central pillar 2b forming an annular space 7. The end wall 2c has an annular opening 2d which is of smaller radial dimension than the space 7 and is sealed by cover 8. A dividing wall 12 (Fig. 3, not shown) welded to pillar 2b divides space 7 into two fluid-tight compartments which connect respectively with feed water inlet 10 and outlet 11. The heading fluid, e.g. steam, enters the casing at 4, flows over the tubes 3 and the condensate exits at 5 or 5a.
