Abstract

953,654. Valves. MAIN WATER HEATERS Ltd. Nov. 11, 1960 [Nov. 20, 1959], No. 39544/59. Heading F2V. In an automatic control valve for a waterheater valve 17 opens to pass more water to the heater connected at 19 when the water temperature rises as detected by a thermal bellows and capsule 25, and vice versa. Initially, a by-pass manual valve 32 is opened to operate a gas burner valve and as the water temperature rises, so valve 17 is opened to maintain a constant temperature. Valve 17 and its diaphragm 14 act as an inlet water pressure governor, the space 12 above the diaphragm opening to atmosphere on downstream of a restriction 20. Valve 32 may be dispensed with, in which case the gas and water valves are interconnected, while in another embodiment, as valve 17 opens above a certain limit, it contacts the gas valve to close it. In this ease, when the water flow ceases, the spring-loaded diaphragm moves to close the gas valve. Both water and gas valves may be temperature controlled separately or the capillary pipe 27 may lead to two bellows, one for each valve. The bellows and diaphragm loading springs 26, 24 may be adjustable.
