Abstract

953,520. Brake friction pads. D.B.A. S.A. Nov. 30, 1962 [Dec. 6, 1961], No. 45415/62. Heading F2E. A friction pad for use in a spottype disc brake is provided with a metal reinforcement plate 1 provided on the outer periphery thereof with a pair of projections 9 which form the respective boundaries of a peripheral recess 3 bounded by the friction material 4a. The anchorage ends of the friction pad are defined by edges 7 and 8 perpendicular to the base 2 of the pad. The projections 9 of the reinforcement plate 1 bear against pad-retaining levers 26 hinged to the fixed support member 18 of the brake and the calliper 22, shown in Fig. 6, is capable of floating, one leg of the calliper housing having an applying cylinder and the other leg being adapted to act as a pressure plate for the other friction pad. Rubber blocks 29, 30 are provided between the calliper housing 22 and the pad-retaining levers 26 to assist in damping vibrational noise. The friction surface of the pad is formed with a notch 12 (Fig. 5) to compensate for distortion which occurs during brake application. Specification 943,838 is referred to.
