Abstract
953,254. Heat developable diazotype material. EUGENE DIETZGEN CO. March 9, 1962, No. 9111/62. Drawings to Specification. Heading G2C. A two-component diazotype material consists of a vapour permeable paper or cloth support with a diazomium compound and an azo coupler on one side and on the other side a compound which evolves alkaline vapours on heating up to 400F. The light sensitive side is exposed imagewise and developed by heating the reverse side so that alkaline vapours pass through the support. Specified alkali-generating compounds are urea, guanidine, alkyl substituted ureas, ammonium carbonate, acetate, diglycolate and oleate, ethylene diamine and N<SP>1</SP>-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-methyl-1,2-propanediamine. In the development step, the alkaline vapours are confined to the diazo layer either by applying a resinous layer over the diazo layer before exposure or by applying a metal plate during development. Organic acids such as tartaric, citric, diglycolic, oxalic, acetic and malic acids or acidic salts such as stannic chloride may be added to the alkali-generating layer to improve its stability. The alkali-generating compound is generally applied to the support mixed with a resin and silica to ensure that on heating the vapours do not escape but pass through the support.
