Abstract
1,054,697. Photographic developers; photographic processes. KALLE A.G. Sept. 24, 1964 [Sept.25, 1963], No.39019/64. Headings G2A and G2C. Apparatus for processing a two component diazotype copying material 5 containing a substance which generates an alkaline gas, generally ammonia, on heating comprises two moving endless belts 14, 15 supported by rollers at least one of which is driven by a motor, the belt 15 being heated by a high frequency generator 19 and having spacers 17 thereon. The material 5 is introduced between the belts with its diazo coating 6 uppermost, the belts pressing against the material so as to enclose it. Ammonia is released and it is heated on contact with the belt 15, thus easily reaching the diazo coating and speeding up the developing process. Three other embodiments are described, in one of which the upper belt may be air cooled to keep it below the decomposition temperature of the diazo compound. An infrared heater may be used. Examples of suitable diazo couplers are 2-hydroxy-benzotriazole- (1,2), 1, 3, 5-recorcyl acid-diethylamide and 1-(N-ethylamino)-3-hydroxy-4-methyl-benzene. Examples of the gas generating compounds are amides of organic, aliphatic, mono- or polybasic carboxylic acids and amines of hydrocarbons having straight or branched chains containing a considerable number of carbon atoms, for example dodecylamine, stearylamine and hexamethylenetetramine.
