Abstract
915,337. Photographic printing processes. DIETZGEN CO., EUGENE. Dec. 9, 1960 [Feb. 16, 1960], No. 42432/60. Class 98 (2). Apparatus for making copies of graphic material on a ray-sensitive copying sheet containing a diazo compound, an azo coupling component and a substance capable of evolving an azo developing medium when heated, comprises an ultra-violet lamp in an exposure zone, a heater in the developing zone and sheet-carrying means for conveying the sheets in sandwich form through the zones. In Fig. 5 a graphic original M is placed adjacent a copy sheet S and the sandwich is fed by means of moving belts 37, 38, 40 past an ultra-violet source 29, provided with a reflector 30<SP>1</SP>, to desensitize the non-image parts of the sheet S and round a rotatable roller 32 which encloses a heating means 27 consisting of a series of V-shaped electric filaments or of an infra-red lamp. Instead of the sandwich entering the apparatus at 34 and leaving it at 35<SP>1</SP> in another embodiment it leaves the apparatus after being exposed; the sheet S is then removed from the original M, and is fed through round the developing roller. The ultra-violet lamp and reflector may be placed in a cylinder similar to 26 and various alternative arrangements of belts are described. The ultra-violet light and the heat may be applied to either side of the sandwich as desired.
