953,113. Magnetic structures. LIGNES TELEGRAPHIQUES ET TELEPHONIQUES. May 5, 1961 [May 10, 1960], No. 16414/61. Heading H1H. In the preparation of a ferromagnetic body by compressing and heating a powder, methyl-2 pentanediol 2-4 and a plastics binding agent are added to the powder to act as a combined lubricant and binder. The plastics binder may be polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl alcohol, or nitrocellulose. In one example a mixture of oxides of iron, manganese and zinc in the molecular proportions 52.5 Fe 2 O 3 , 28.3 MnO 1 . 33 , 19.2 ZnO were ground and 0.1% by weight Ca added. The hexylene glycol and binder were then added. The powder was pressed into toroids, heated to 500‹ C. for 15 hours, held at this temperature for 15 hours, and sintered at 1235 ‹ C. in nitrogen containing a little oxygen. The hexylene glycol and the plastic binder may each comprise 3% by weight of the powder mixture. Properties of the magnetic cores so formed are specified.
