976,954. Magnetic compositions. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 1, 1963 [March 5, 1962], No. 8293/63. Heading H1H. A method of manufacturing a soft magnetic manganese-zinc ferrite sintered body having a high initial permeability and low high-frequency losses comprises prefiring for several hours at a temperature between 900‹ C. and 1100‹ C. a mixture of iron manganese and zinc oxides or oxide-yielding compounds which mixture contains chemically-bound calcium, cooling and pulverizing the reaction product, mixing the mixture with oxalic acid and/or ammonium oxalate, adding ammonium alginate as a binder and granulating the product, compressing the product into shape, sintering for half an hour at 1225‹ C.-1275‹ C. in N 2 containing 2-10% O 2 and cooling to room temperature over 3-4 hours, the cooling from 1000‹ C. taking place in N 2 .The inclusion of the oxalic acid or oxalate is in an amount chemically equivalent to the bound calcium, and results in fewer rejected sintered bodies. Specified materials are 52- 58 mol. per cent Fe 2 O 3 ,14-16 mol. per cent ZnO and 28-32 mol. per cent MnO.
