Abstract

952,451. Axial-flow fans; mounting axial-flow fan blades. GRANADA GROUP Ltd. March 7, 1961 [Dec. 8, 1959], No. 41671/59. Headings F1C and F1T. An axial-flow machine comprises an induction motor having a central stator surrounded by a rotor in the form of a casing supported for rotation on a stationary shaft which also supports the stator, and one or more sets of flow-inducing blades extending radially from the rotor and arranged to co-operate with stationary blades, each blade having a root of dovetail section secured in a dovetail groove. In the fan shown, the internal stator 1 of the squirrel-cage induction motor driving the fan is carried by a stationary shaft 4 which is hollow to accommodate the supply leads 5. The external rotor of the motor is carried within the hub 2 of the fan impeller, which is journalled on the stationary shaft 4 through bearings 3. The dovetail roots of the impeller blades 8 are clamped between end rings 10 by means of tie bolts 11, with the interposition of an annular rib 7 projecting from the hub 2 and a spacer ring 9, both of dovetail section. The stator blades 13 are fixed to the fan casing 6 in a similar manner. In addition, set screws (not shown) pass through the casing 6 into tapped holes in the clamp rings 15 and spacer rings 14, the clearance holes in the casing being elongated in a direction parallel to the fan axis to permit the tie holts (not shown) to exert clamping pressure.
