Abstract

1344598 Centrifugal and axial flow compressors; turbines CARRIER CORP 31 Aug 1972 [6 Oct 1971] 40339/72 Headings F1C and FIT [Also in Division F2] A rotor structure for a turbine, an axial-flow compressor or, as shown, a centrifugal compressor, comprises stub shafts 10, 11 fixed to the ends of a tie bolt 12, a rotor assembly including rotors such as 18-21 fixed between the stub shafts, and force producing means carried in part by the rotor assembly and adjustable to exert an adjustable radially inward restraining force on the tie bolt to increase the natural frequency of vibration of the tie bolt and thereby avoid resonance at operating speeds. The force producing means comprises screws 61 acting through pins 60 upon resilient cantilever portions 50 of a sleeve 40 which is shrunk at one end on to an enlarged portion 43 of the tie bolt 12. To provide the cantilever portions 50, the sleeve 40 is formed with slots 47. The rotors 18-21 are fixed to one another and to the stub shaft 10 and a seal member 17 by means of pins 31. After the stub shaft 11 has been threaded on to the tie bolt 12, keys 33 are inserted.
