Abstract

952,393. Shoots; conveyers. AMP Inc. Nov. 22, 1962 [Nov. 28, 1961], No. 42432/61. Headings B8A and B8S. Electrical leads 22, each with a leading connector 23 and a trailing connector 24, are fed singly from an automatic lead-making machine (not shown) to an inlet funnel 1 (Fig. 1, plan view), driven rolls 4 mounted on levers 6 pivoted at 7 being opened by a ram 10, 11 to allow passage of the leading connector 23. The rolls 4 are then brought into contact to project the lead 22 into a channel 13 with sufficient force to reach the closed end 15, the rolls being such as not to damage the trailing connector 24. The channel 13 has a bottom plate 16 pivoted at 17 (Fig. 3) and operated by a ram 18 to allow the lead 22 to slide down a shoot 19 into a trough 20. The leads 22 are thus stacked in parallel sideby-side relationship to facilitate further handling. The sequence of operations is controlled automatically by cams mounted on a cam-shaft (not shown), driven by the lead-making machine, actuating the rams 10, 11 and 18.
