Abstract

1,039,064. Stacking can ends. FLEETWOOD SYSTEMS Inc. June 23, 1965 [June 23, 1964], No. 26620/65. Heading B8C. A device for forming stacks of can ends comprises means feeding them in edgewise alignment to a pneumatic device which arranges them stacked face to face and a trough to receive the stack. The device handles domed as well as flat ends. The ends 22 are fed by a conveyer 18 to a shoot 20 leading to the open end of a cylinder 34 to which suction is applied through ports 38. The ends are sucked between opposed gears 56 which feed them on to the end of the stack 30. The gears may move apart against springs 70 in the event of a jam, Fig. 4 (not shown). The spacing of the gears may be adjusted for different lid sizes. If a jam occurs or suction fails, the ends fall down a shoot 89.
