Abstract
951, 555. Liquid level control. A. L. THOMEE. Nov.9, 1961 [Nov.9, 1960], No. 40193/61. Heading G1L. [Also in Division F4] Oil is maintained at a constant level in the reservoir 1 of a burner by a pipe 17 through which air passes downwardly to the cap 10 of an inverted oil tank 8. An outlet 2 of the reservoir is connected to the burner. As the oil flows out through a bore 16 in the cap 10 the air from the pipe 17 bubbles upwardly through the oil in the tank until the oil in the reservoir covers the lower end of the air pipe 17. The upper end of the air pipe 17 is controlled by a valve cone 33 fixed to a pivoted beam 22 held in the position shown by the weight of a ball 26. If the burner is overturned the ball falls off the beam and a tension spring 31 then tilts the beam to close the valve. The rate of oil supply to the burner is varied by a screw 29 which acts on the beam to set the spacing between the cone 33 of the valve and the opening of the air pipe.
